Nature in Stormarn

Stormarn offers beautiful natural landscapes that are well worth a day exploring in various ways. Explore one of our nature reserves on your own or follow one of our purpose-built educational nature trails. Learn exciting stories about our forest “residents” and observe our native birds. So, do not forget to bring your binoculars.

Hahnheide

The largest nature conservation area in Stormarn, the Hahnheide, invites you to go for long hikes and breathe in fresh forest air. In summer, it is nice and cool here and in autumn you can enjoy the region’s Indian Summer colours. This is best done from the top of the viewing tower “Langer Otto” from where you have a magnificent view over the whole area. Dotted in among the mainly hilly and forested area, there are also small valleys with streams and ditches. Part of the Sommerweg, a 18th century dirt road running right across the Hahnheide, is now protected.
